No Place To Hide

Silent and still, the night surrounds the weary warrior's bed - While the tumult of the killing ground rages inside his head - Though long ago and far away, War spreads its fingers wide - He feels its fiery touch each day - Sleep gives no place to hide. - Lachlan Irvine.

A Happy Kapyong Day to All!

This blog has been silent for several weeks, due to health issues and more pressing priorities. I have decided to get back to blogging, and will try to post something of interest at least every couple of days.

Today is Kapyong Day.

What is Kapyong Day, I hear you ask? Well, you won't be asking if you ever served in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), because this is the battalion's special day. It is celebrated each year on the anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong, the most significant Australian battle of the Korean War, in 1951. As a result of that battle, 3RAR became the first Australian unit to be awarded a United States Presidential Unit Citation. I served with 3RAR in Vietnam in 1967-68, and proudly wore the little blue swimming pool on my left shoulder, as is the right of all serving members of 3RAR in perpetuity.

There is a host of information available on the Internet about Kapyong, and you can find it by doing a keyword search on any search engine.
