No Place To Hide

Silent and still, the night surrounds the weary warrior's bed - While the tumult of the killing ground rages inside his head - Though long ago and far away, War spreads its fingers wide - He feels its fiery touch each day - Sleep gives no place to hide. - Lachlan Irvine.

The Liberal Leadership Song

It's just a purge of the left,
And then a leap to the right.
Big Malcolm was in charge,
The mad monk wanted a fight.
But it was climate change
That finally drove them in-say-ay-ay-ay-ay-ane.
Libs in a time warp again.
Libs in a time warp again.

Website on hold

I am unable to add any new content to my website right now, because I have maxed out my free allocation of space. I will eventually have to bite the bullet and start paying the site builder to give me more space, but until then I have to cut some pages and trim others. This may take a week or two.

Mandolin Wind

Some friends visited on the weekend, and brought a mandolin. This added variety to our singalongs, and also reminded me how much I loved an old Rod Stewart song, Mandolin Wind. So I added the lyrics and guitar chords to the My Song Book pages in my website.

Phill Thompson

It's 23 years today since the veteran community in Australia lost an inspirational leader, Phill Thompson. Click on this link for a poem I wrote about Phill.

I am currently doing some much needed maintenance on my website. A lot of my pages need to be updated, so I'm taking care of that while I work on writing the next chapter of my life story. That will be Operation Pinnaroo, in the Long Hai Hills, in March-April 1968. I am also working on my post-Vietnam story, in which the next chapter will take me to England in 1973.

New email address

Somebody recently sent out a spam email using my name and hotmail address, to everyone on my contact list. As a result, Hotmail shut down my account, and I have no access to my contact list or to any of the emails I have saved over the last ten years or more that I have been with Hotmail. Would anybody who has been, or would like to be, on my contact list please send your email address to me at my new address: lachlanirvine@gmail.com.

It's been almost a year since I've posted anything on this blog. In that time I've made quite a bit of progress on writing my life story on my website, so I've decided it's time to reactivate the blog to let people know what I'm up to. I've just finished writing about the battle at Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral, the biggest Australian battle of the Vietnam War. My hope is that the very personal nature of my account of the battle and my feelings at the time will help others to understand the effects of war on young minds, and to understand how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder begins.
